“Breathing Project” is the result of a collaborative work between the choreographer and director Maria Escarabajal, the choreographer Seraina Dejaco and me as scenographer.
This video installation was the result of a research about dance in functional and involuntary movement: dance where there is no dance. The body movements that the act of breathing produces are really small and discrete, probably really difficult to be represented effectively in a stage context. The distance between the audience and the performer is too big and many little important details would be lost. On the contrary the video camera is able to frame parts of the body that are unusual to the human eye.
This video is composed of three different videos that were projected on three retro projected screens. The three screens (2.06x2.73m) were forming an open square where the public was invited in.
Presented on the 20/5/2009 at Laban, London.
