The exhibition Portraits within a convex mirror is a temporal short circuit. A series of interstitial works inhabit the historic apartments of the Adolfo Pini Foundation, telling the stories of imaginary portraits and self-portraits that silently insinuate themselves between the spaces, furnishings and works of the Bongiovanni Radice house.
Drawings, sculptures, photographs and videos, like small interferences, allow us to look at the newly renovated spaces in a different way, and give the possibility to open reflections on the dialogue between art and time, in a non-linear perspective in which fragments, reflections and marginalia are carefully observed.
The title of the exhibition recalls and cites Self-portrait within a convex mirror, a painting by Parmigianino made in 1524 in which the artist, twenty-one years old, portrays his own distorted image in a hemisphere. Not only that. Appropriating this title, the American poet John Ashbery, in his 1975 collection, transforms the famous painting into an existential image, in which vision, language and thought contribute to the construction of a multiple and changeable identity, somehow always subject to interpretations and distortions. And it is precisely to this changeability that the project refers.
With works by Marina Ballo Charmet, Francesco Bertocco, Rita Canarezza & Pier Paolo Coro, Stefano Cagol, Ermanno Cristini, Barbara De Ponti, Chiara Dynys, Giovanni Ferrario, GianMarco Porru, Luca Scarabelli, Valentina Vetturi and a reading room curated by Alessio Pasqualini.
