The Escape

installation (textiles, books, fibre-glass)
from The Past Unravels
Jersey Museum, 2012

Installation representing sisters Alice and Berthe Ginestet. A surreal scene of bird like transformations and wild imaginings. Depicting the confinement to the home of women during this time, the sisters act out and create adventures of their own. The books spill out with birds escaping. One sisters wings take her into flight as she hovers over the window looking out at the docks. The girls are in exile from France and there’s a sense of longing for home and their deceased mother. The installation depicts an emotional state of escape through the creation of their own imagined tales.
